Enrico Marconi |
Enrico, who comes from northern Italy, began his formal training in piano at conservatory at the age of seven. Shortly afterwards, he began studying piano privately with Maestra Olga Gorgazzini, a student of Maestro Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. Upon completion of his conservatory studies (majoring in piano, voice, harmony and the history of music), Enrico was awarded five scholarships (two Italian, one German and two American) to study composition and conducting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While there, he won two further awards for outstanding performance in his studies. He graduated magna cum laude. Enrico's mother tongue is Italian. His second language is English, and he also speaks French, German, Spanish and Farsi. While Enrico has performed in the past as a soloist in both live concerts and radio broadcasts, and as a rehearsal pianist, he is now involved in conducting and teaching. As a conductor, he has been assisting Maestro Antonio Pappano since 2001 in orchestral concerts featuring the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Rome-based Orchestra Nazionale dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia, as well as attending rehearsals at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, for those operas directed by Maestro Pappano. As a teacher, he offers both classical and jazz piano, the study of harmony, arranging and improvisation. His pupils range from absolute beginners to advanced, from under ten years of age to over sixty. Classical composers being studied at the moment are Bach, Scarlatti, Clementi, Bartók, Diabelli, Schumann, Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel and Satie. Jazz composers being studied are Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Enrico Pierannunzi, Pat Metheny, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. Enrico believes that lessons alone are not enough. The key to success on the piano is regular daily practice. To this end, he employes a technique designed to maximise results and eliminate wastage of time and redundancy in the study of repertoire, while simulataneously achieving sound control and improving technique. Enrico also believes that it is crucial to start with the correct hand position and body posture at the piano in order to avoid physical conditions such as tendonitis or spinal problems, which can be the result of incorrect playing techniques. The philosophy behind Enrico's approach to piano teaching is to help his students achieve a relaxed and natural interaction with the instrument.
